Blue Eye Shadow

How about some lizards? For some reason I've seen more of the lizards as the weather becomes cooler. Perhaps they extend their range for foraging as the insects they feed upon become less numerous. Maybe some of their prime predators have gone south for the winter making them feel safer or the cooler weather makes them seek out warmer spots. Whatever the reasons, they provide a good opportunity to take a few photo's.

Check out that area around the eye on the one above. It is so perfectly round that it almost looks like it was photoshopped into the picture. And the blue around the eye is interesting. It makes me think of some kind of reptilian alien trying to mimic a human look with a bit of blue eye shadow. (It is particularly noticeable in the enlarged view.)
Now this guy above was just hanging out doing what lizards do I guess. A closer look from the other side might result in a different impression though.

That lowered lid and the way his jaw appears to be resting upon the branch makes him look sleepy. Or maybe he is just day dreaming.

Or perhaps he is pining away for a certain long-tailed, slender green creature with blue eye shadow.

  4. I love the lizards Baker and your knack for writing about the creatures that you find around the pond. I wonder if we have any. It's getting cold here so maybe they have gone to hibernate...

Graceanne left me a comment asking me to e-mail her. I don't have her e-mail address. She said that the gmail account that you had for me didn't work, but that is my e-mail address.

  5. lin - thanks for dropping by - our little lizards can travel pretty fast too but sometimes they will stay in one place for a few shots

    Cheryl - Yep - That's the look

Kelly - Hey - Retro looks good on a lizard and evidently it works, lol

Michelle - thanks - sometimes the photo's seen to have a voice of their own - and I think we may have the address situation solved

  6. These are so cute! I love the idea of the male romantically thinking of the blue eyeshadow look!

We have some chameleons (considered dangerous by the locals) and spectacular looking lizards here in Mozambique. I should try to get some photos of them sometime.

  7. Baker...I just love your lizard photos...we had a few for pets when I was a child. But, Clarence the chameleon was my favorite...he'd lift his little limbs up and let us peel off his skin when he shedded. I was a weird child when I think back! You're lucky to have them running around! Wait a minute...they eat dragonflies, don't they?!

  8. Esmé - It would be great if you could post a few photo's of your lizards - I'm sure some are quite spectacular compared to the ones around here

spooky - I'm glad you mentioned about them shedding. Most people probably don't realize they shed their skin periodically much like many snakes - I'm not sure about the dragons. I imagine they could eat dragonflies, or at least damselflies. I think most of the ones around here are a little too small to take on the dragons but the smaller damsels may need to watch out for them.
